Quick Guide for Visas

All foreign nationals entering India are required to possess a valid international travel document in the form of a national passport with a valid visa obtained from an Indian Mission or Post abroad.All Individual visa seekers are requested to apply for the Indian Visa through Online application, in order to make an application for getting the Indian visa.The duly signed physical copy of the application form completed in all respect and submitted successfully, is to be submitted at the concerned Indian Visa Application Center (IVAC) or directly to Indian Mission/ Post, on the scheduled date of interview along with the requisite supporting documents.

Here's a quick guide to apply for the Tourist Visa Category :

Prepare the required documents

  • Scanned recent 2×2 picture with a white background
  • Scanned copy of your passport showing the details (passport must be valid within 6 months from your departure)

Online Application

The Indian government now offers two options for travelers: a traditional visa and an e-Visa which is issued electronically.

  • You have to select your point of entry in your application. You are also required to put a person of reference in India.
  • If you’re staying in a hotel you can put the name of the hotel, address and contact number. A reference from your home country will be asked as well.

E-mail Confirmation

You will receive an email confirmation upon submission and payment of your application. The email will have an Application ID attached which you can use to track the status of your application. Once your visa is approved, you will receive an email confirmation stating that your visa has been granted. The process can take up to 72 hours.

Note: Your e-visa guarantees your entry to India, but you are still subjected to immigration control and require documents to prove that your stay in India is purely for pleasure . Documents include hotel bookings, outbound air ticket.
