Passport Application & Renewal Process

All Indian citizens who depart or intend to depart from India are required to be in possession of a valid passport or travel document. Under the Passports Act 1967, the Government of India may issue different types of passports and travel documents such as Ordinary Passport, Diplomatic Passport, Official Passport, Emergency Certificate and Certificate of Identity for the purpose.

Issue of Fresh Passport: While applying under fresh issuance category, you should make sure you never held a Passport of the applied category (i.e. Ordinary Passport, Diplomatic passport or Official Passport) in the past.

Re-issue /Passport Renewal: If you want another passport in lieu of an existing one, you can apply for re-issue or renewal of passport.The reasons befitting this category are:

  • Change in existing personal particulars.
  • Validity expired within 3 years or is due.
  • Validity expired more than 3 years ago.
  • Exhaustion of pages
  • Damaged/ Lost passport

The new process for passport issue/renewal requires you to fill the online application form via e-Form Submission or Online Form Submission. The Police Clerance Certificate (PCC)must be duly filled and submitted along. Under the new system applicants are required to present themselves at the respective Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) for enabling the Passport Issuing Authority to obtain applicants' photographs, biometrics and granting decision in their presence.
