Attestation of documents valid outside INDIA
- An Application is required to be written in plain sheet of paper, which may be addressed to any of the Government Officer of the Passport Department along with the applicants full address including contact number etc.
- Two sets of the photocopy of the attestation attached with the required documents.
- The documents are forwarded to the concerned DC offices for verification and countersigned
- The documents are verified by the issuing authority and countersigned by the concerned DC Offices ,thereafter the documents are attested.
Self-Attestation Of Passport
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has simplified the documentation process for passport application by doing away with the condition of attestation from gazetted officers.According to a circular issued by the passport division of the MEA, applicants henceforth need to only attach self-attested photocopies of all original documents at the time of submission. However, all original documents are required to be produced at the time of verification or final processing.There are certain cases in respect of which attested copies of documents are still sought, as per the prescribed provision. These are as under:
- For minors, attested copies of parents passports are sought;
- For proof of marriage, where Marriage Certificates are submitted, attested copies of the same are sought;
- For issue of ordinary passport to Government Servant upon retirement / resignation attested copies of Pension payment, order/notification of retirement or communication accepting resignation of the Government Official is sought.
